American Campaign Desk

Size 38” wide 20 ¼” deep and 56” high, this desk is a small-scale campaign desk!

This is an excellent and original 19th-century campaign desk that dates from the time of the American Civil War. The finish has been worked on in the past, but it still retains the wear from years of use, specifically on the fall front desk.

What makes this a campaign desk is that it breaks into two manageable units that are light and easy to transport. The deck is fitted with a lock, and many cubbies including two that are ledger size and most telling of its heritage is that the crown is rounded at the back so that it will not dent or break off in transient.

The base has one drawer with hand cut dovetails and two toggle supports to lay the writing service down on. The writing surface is hinged and flips over to give you maximum writing surface but then can be folded away to allow more space in the tent when not in use. This desk would have to been transported by wagon so a high ranking officer would have used it.
Unique features of this desk are solid heart pine construction with the top being one single plank deep. Shiplap back panel, four expertly turned legs, Interior cubbies for documents, flip down writing service, and a drawer with hand cut dovetails. This desk is sized to fit smaller spaces and give a significant impact. This is an excellent and original campaign desk made in the middle part of the 1800’s that has seen many years of service and use; it is truly fantastic!
